Data Movement Engineer - Contract Position

About the role:
We are seeking a Data Movement Engineer to support the modernization of core data platforms
for a mission-driven financial services organization. This role will focus on production support,
optimization, and enhancement of Snowflake-based data environments and ETL pipelines. The
ideal candidate is highly technical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in complex
enterprise data ecosystems while contributing to meaningful, purpose-driven work.
This position is hybrid and requires local presence in the New Haven, CT area.
Duties and responsibilities:
Support and optimize Snowflake-based data pipelines, models, and ETL/ELT processes.
Manage end-to-end data movement operations including monitoring, troubleshooting, and
performance tuning.
Resolve data issues related to integrity, latency, failures, and system performance.
Develop and optimize SQL queries, warehouse configurations, and data models for scalability.
Support CDC (Change Data Capture), SCD Type 2, Data Vault, and dimensional modeling
frameworks.
Provide production support across Snowflake, IBM DB2, and orchestration tools (Airflow, ESP).
Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term fixes for recurring data issues.
Ensure data quality through validation, reconciliation, and consistency checks.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into
solutions.
Support data governance, including metadata management, lineage, and documentation.
Maintain runbooks, documentation, and incident resolution procedures.
Participate in on-call support and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and mentorship to junior team members.
Experience:
5+ years of experience in data warehousing, business intelligence, or data engineering.
3+ years of advanced SQL development across platforms such as Snowflake, Oracle, SQL
Server, or DB2.
Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake (development, optimization, security, and
architecture).
Experience with cloud data platforms and modern ETL/ELT processes.
Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages (Python, Shell).
Familiarity with orchestration tools (Airflow, ESP) and version control (Git).
Experience with CI/CD and incident management tools (ServiceNow, Jira).
Strong understanding of Data Vault, dimensional modeling, CDC, and SCD Type 2.
Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, production-support environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred
