About the role:
Growing Property & Casualty insurance carrier seeking a Director of Claims to lead and strengthen its claims organization during an exciting period of expansion. This company specializes in insurance solutions for motor carriers and independent contractor truckers. With significant investment in growth initiatives and strong premium expansion projected over the next several years, this is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced claims executive who enjoys building teams, improving outcomes, and shaping strategy. The Director of Claims will provide enterprise leadership across the entire claims function, overseeing in-house claims operations, third-party administrators, outside counsel, and complex high-exposure claims. Reporting directly to the President and serving as a key member of the executive team, this leader will play a critical role in driving claim outcomes, managing financial exposure, strengthening claims processes, and supporting profitable growth.
Duties and responsibilities:
Lead the overall claims operation; financial exposure, reserving strategy, and settlement authority. Directly oversee complex and high-severity commercial auto liability claims. Manage defense counsel and provide strategic direction on litigation and settlement negotiations. Establish and monitor claims performance metrics, identifying trends that impact pricing, underwriting, and risk selection. Oversee performance of TPAs, defense counsel, and claims service vendors. Ensure reserving discipline, effective litigation strategies, and strong service delivery. Ensure compliance with state and federal claims regulations, reporting requirements, and best practices. Oversee the claims platform and related technologies. Enhance claims procedures and workflows to improve efficiency, cost control, and customer experience.
Experience:
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE 8–10+ years of claims experience, including 3–5+ years in a leadership role. Experience handling commercial auto liability, cargo, physical damage claims, within the trucking sector. Proven ability managing defense counsel and complex litigation strategy. Deep understanding of claims regulations, litigation processes, and industry best practices. Demonstrated experience building and leading high-performing claims teams. Adjuster license with multi-state reciprocity (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
Compensation:
