About the role:
A growing international reinsurance organization is seeking a highly experienced Director of Reinsurance Underwriting & Delegated Authority Oversight to help lead and strengthen its global underwriting governance infrastructure across treaty, facultative, MGA/MGU, and delegated authority business platforms. This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for a senior reinsurance professional with deep experience overseeing underwriting controls, delegated authority frameworks, portfolio governance, bordereaux discipline, underwriting audits, and multi-jurisdictional P&C underwriting operations across international markets. The organization is expanding its global underwriting platform and seeks a technically strong, operationally disciplined leader capable of helping build scalable underwriting governance processes across multiple geographies, cedents, distribution structures, and classes of business. The ideal individual brings a strong blend of underwriting expertise, operational oversight, delegated authority governance, and international reinsurance market experience across London, Miami, Bermuda, Dubai, and other major global trading hubs.
Duties and responsibilities:
Underwriting Governance & Delegated Authority Oversight · Lead development and enforcement of delegated authority governance frameworks across international underwriting platforms. · Oversee MGA/MGU and binding authority underwriting operations, controls, audits, and governance standards. · Establish and maintain underwriting policies, delegated authorities, referral thresholds, underwriting guidelines, and portfolio controls. · Evaluate underwriting file quality, bordereaux discipline, aggregation controls, authority adherence, and underwriting governance effectiveness. · Identify and address issues involving authority creep, class leakage, territorial leakage, inconsistent underwriting practices, and guideline deviations. · Conduct underwriting audits and portfolio reviews across multiple jurisdictions and lines of business. Reinsurance Underwriting & Portfolio Management · Oversee treaty and facultative underwriting activities across Property & Casualty portfolios. · Support underwriting strategy, portfolio mix, pricing adequacy, and risk appetite alignment. · Monitor pricing integrity, exposure analytics, volatility, catastrophe accumulations, and capital deployment efficiency. · Partner with actuarial, finance, claims, compliance, and executive leadership on portfolio performance and enterprise risk management initiatives. · Design and evaluate outward reinsurance structures including Quota Share, Surplus, and Excess of Loss programs. · Review reinsurance contract wording, collateral structures, and counterparty credit exposure. International Market & Operational Leadership · Oversee underwriting governance involving cedents, brokers, MGAs, and carriers operating across international markets. · Work with business written through London, Miami, Dubai, Bermuda, Latin America, Asia, Europe, Africa, and other global trading environments. · Ensure operational consistency, underwriting discipline, and governance standards across multiple jurisdictions and regulatory environments. · Support the organization’s continued international growth initiatives and underwriting platform expansion.
Experience:
10+ years of progressive experience within reinsurance underwriting, delegated authority oversight, underwriting governance, or international P&C portfolio management. · Strong experience overseeing MGA/MGU platforms, binding authority programs, underwriting audits, and delegated authority controls. · Demonstrated expertise managing underwriting governance across multiple jurisdictions and international markets. · Deep understanding of treaty structures including Quota Share, Surplus, and Excess of Loss. · Experience with facultative underwriting, bordereaux management, aggregation controls, and underwriting portfolio oversight. · Strong technical understanding of underwriting operations, pricing discipline, exposure analytics, catastrophe management, and portfolio governance. · Experience working with cedents, brokers, MGAs, MGUs, and carrier platforms across global trading hubs. · Familiarity with London Market operations and international reinsurance structures strongly preferred. · Experience across Latin America and Caribbean markets is helpful, but broader international underwriting governance experience is required. · Strong leadership, communication, and operational management skills. · Fluent English required; Spanish is highly preferred.
Compensation:
$180,000 to $280,000, bonus, competitive benefits
