About the role:
Are you a Program Underwriter with a profitable niche portfolio, deep technical expertise, and a vision to build your own MGA-backed program? This is not a traditional underwriting role, this is a unique entrepreneurial opportunity to launch, scale, and own your own insurance program with institutional support. Our client is a private, independent insurance group, backed by capital and led by proven industry leaders. They are looking for entrepreneurial underwriting talent to own a piece of their business while leveraging their MGA platform, infrastructure, and distribution capabilities. Duties and responsibilities:
Build, launch, and manage your program under a supportive MGA platform. Develop underwriting guidelines, pricing strategies, and profitability controls. Oversee risk evaluation, portfolio performance, and operational execution. Lead, mentor, and grow an underwriting team (if applicable). Partner with executive leadership on financial performance, scaling strategy, and long-term growth. We are seeking highly specialized Program Underwriters who: Have built or managed profitable, niche specialty programs (non-admitted preferred). Possess deep technical underwriting acumen and understand exposure trends, pricing, policy forms, filings, and regulatory requirements. Maintain strong retail distribution relationships and a market reputation to drive early program success. Have an entrepreneurial mindset, ready to take ownership of a scalable program business. The potential for $1–3M in revenue in your first year, depending on niche and distribution.
Experience:
A demonstrated track record of profitability in a narrow, specialized niche. Industry reputation and distribution relationships to quickly scale your program. Experience with policy forms, filings, regulatory frameworks, and modern underwriting technology. Understanding of capital management, financial levers, and program performance metrics. A clear vision and business plan readiness for your program.
Compensation:
Base salary of $200K–$300K plus benefits. Partial ownership of your program. Support from a private, independent MGA with institutional infrastructure, allowing you to focus on underwriting and growth.
