About the role:
Our client is specialty insurance organization that is seeking a Senior Vice President & Head of Inland Marine to lead and expand its national Inland Marine underwriting platform. This is a high-impact executive role responsible for driving profitable growth, leading a team of skilled underwriters, and shaping the strategic direction of a well-established Inland Marine portfolio. This leader will oversee a team of approximately 10 underwriters and 6 underwriting assistants, guiding underwriting strategy, portfolio management, and producer relationships across the country. Working closely with executive leadership, this role plays a critical part in defining underwriting appetite, strengthening distribution relationships, and ensuring long-term profitability of the Inland Marine business unit.
Duties and responsibilities:
Lead the strategic and operational direction of the Inland Marine business unit, ensuring profitable growth and disciplined underwriting. Develop and execute the annual financial plan, including premium growth and underwriting profitability targets. Manage underwriting portfolio performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) including quote activity, bind ratios, premium mix, and loss ratios. Build and maintain strong relationships with wholesale and retail agents and brokers to support production and long-term partnerships. Review and approve complex or high-value risks that exceed individual underwriter authority. Monitor catastrophe exposure and reinsurance alignment, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines and treaty structures.
Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required (Risk Management, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related discipline. 10+ years of underwriting experience, primarily focused on Inland Marine risks; Builders Risk, Contractors Equipment, Riggers Liability, Motor Truck Cargo, Warehouse Legal Liability, Automobile Physical Damage. Experience managing and developing high-performing underwriting teams.
Compensation:
